Our Story

We, Brian and Jackie, having lived in Canada for 24 years were planning to move back to our native Ireland in 1991. After much searching up and down the coast we had the good luck to find out about “a period house for sale on an island”. We were offered the keys to stay over for the night if we wished! The house and garden were so overgrown that we had to crawl in through bushes to find the front door. There had been an auction so no furniture and house was in poor condition. This did not deter us .We camped by the fire, enjoyed our bottle of wine and knew it felt right.

After many years of summer visits and slow restoration, thanks to friends and family we finally moved to live at Atlantic Villa on Valentia Island in 2007. We opened our bed and breakfast and self-catering cottages in 2008. We both enjoy the island life and have been made to feel so welcome by the community. We grow a garden and have honey bees and chickens. Our guests enjoy it too and many return to stay time and time again.
